Peter and the Wolf BLOCKING 5

In todays lesson, we worked on blocking a specific scene that we felt needed work done. It is the scene in which James Whiteing (The Grandfather) comes on to drag me (Peter) off stage. Our intention is to add more movement to the scene, as it was slightly dull and dragged on a bit. We added some more dance to it, as the higher energy of a scene, the more a younger audience will enjoy it.

At the moment, the scenes are looking more and more complete, however they look like they need a lot more work. There is only a limit to how much we can do as our narrator is struggling with his lines. This means we find it harder to rehearse outside of lesson, as we aren't able to run smoothly.

Along with this, I worked with our costume designer (Georgia) on putting together the best possible outfit. I am intending on wearing denim dungarees over a red t-shirt. This is something often recanted to a child-like outfit. I also worked with our make-up artist to produce a solid concept on what I should look like on the night. We want to exaggerate a 'cute' child look, and add lots of freckles.

Business unit

In this lesson, we began our business unit. We were tasked with listing as many jobs related to theatre as possible. The list we created is:

  • Usher
  • Director
  • Runner
  • Producer
  • Light technician
  • Sound technician
  • Stage manager
  • Assistant stage manager
  • Costume designer
  • Set designer
  • Marketing manager
  • Actor
  • Swing
  • Musician
  • Crew
  • Security
  • Writer
  • Light + sound designer
  • Bartender
  • Ticket checking
  • Choreographer
  • Conductor
The reason 3 are highlighted is because we were then tasked with selected 3 that we would be interested in looking at in further depth. We had to look at the specific roles you must do under the role, along with the characteristics they look for in the specific occupation.

Peter and the Wolf MARKETING

My job for Peter and the wolf was to create posters, flyers, a video and contact the school to advertise our theatre production in the school newspaper. Here is a draft of a video I created.

We later decided that a video would not be the most efficient way of marketing. This is because there are not many places we could put it. Instead, I designed posters to put online and to print out and spread across our school. Here is the design...

I chose to use pencil drawings of the characters at it was a simple colour scheme, allowing others colours to work on the poster. The drawings are well fitted for children, as the expressions are exaggerated. The certain fonts I chose were a mixture between bubble and standard serif font. My intention was for the poster to look professional yet still engaging to children. I tried to use different colours including red, yellow and purple.

Along with this, we put it on the school website, put it in the school newsletter and put it on the schools social media.

First look at FEST

10 drama groups
2 from St Georges
We are doing a devised

Anti-Bullying Mock FINAL PERFORMANCE analysis

TECHNIQUES WE USED:

  • Tableaux
  • Non-naturalistic
  • Naturalistic
  • Stage Combat
  • Contrasted comedy and serious moments
  • Used statistics
  • Stereotypes
  • Captions
  • Brecht influences - "Maths Class" + usage of cards saying 'speak up'

DID WELL

  • Addition of projection
  • Comedic moments (Tristan's classroom character worked)
  • Moved into spotlight pretty well
  • Stayed in role throughout
  • Used techniques that students identified with
  • Created an atmosphere with the statistics

IMPROVEMENTS

  • Act more childlike
  • Louder
  • Several actors forgot different cues
  • left awkward when characters entered stage when they weren't supposed to
  • Smoother transitions + full of energy
  • Use more of the stage
  • Further gradual build up to the punch
In my opinion, we gave a performance that entertained the audience with comedic and serious moments. I feel as though the message was received by the audience, but several mistakes were made on the night + energy levels could have been higher, causing them to be slightly distracted from the message.

Peter and the Wolf BLOCKING 4

Unfortunately in this rehearsal, I was clearly not feeling my best, therefore my input was lower than usual. Despite having a headache, I still tried to provide a few ideas to the class. As you can see in the rehearsal, we were working on the scenes where the wolf is introduced, along with the combat scene. In this scene, we want the wolf to crawl out from behind the tree and move around with menace. I believe the scene still has a lot of work to do, however we will see it develop after doing many run through.
